Reading this post on an E Ink ePaper screen is up to 3X healthier for your eyes.

If you’re trying to reduce or eliminate digital eye strain from blue light, you can reduce your screen time OR change what kind of screen you use (or both). The reason is that most digital screens in computers, phones and tablets are made with LCD screens; they emit enough blue light to hurt your eyes over prolonged periods of viewing. But ePaper screens are essentially just like paper in that they are not emissive.

To aid readability in darker environments, most screens made with ePaper have a front light you can turn on and adjust the brightness. Front lights, however, are still very different from LCD screens. The reason is that front lights are built in around the edge of an ePaper screen, whereas every inch of an LCD screen emits blue light.

To make the use of front lights easier on our eyes, E Ink invented their own front light—called ComfortGazeTM—that emits less blue light. And to make absolutely sure their ePaper and front light combo enabled healthier screen time, they sponsored a study at Harvard. The results proved that you can look at the screens of devices made with E Ink and ComfortGaze up to 3X longer without eye strain. What I usually do is reserve using my front light for environments that are actually dark (like reading in bed at night), versus in my office.

Fortunately, there are now a lot more kinds of devices—beyond eReaders—that allow for healthier screen time with ePaper. This includes things like computers and monitors, including devices with latest new color screens. With so many screens everywhere (TVs, phones etc), completely eliminating eye strain may not be possible, but it is possible to make a real difference.
